Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

GENEVA, IL -- The Kane County Cougars pounded the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 19-5 Sunday night at Elfstrom Stadium. Jeff Baisley was 2-for-3 and drove in six runs and Jose Pineda had a homer and four RBI as the Cougars jumped to a 14-1 lead after three innings and never looked back.

Wisconsin (19-30) actually scored first in the game. JB Tucker grounded to shortstop Justin Sellers with two out, but Sellers booted the ball for an error. A wild pitch by Cougar starting pitcher Jason Ray moved Tucker to second base. Luis Valbuena followed with an RBI single to left. Valbuena's single extended his hitting streak to ten games and put the Rattler ahead, however brief it was.

Kane County (30-19) answered back with three runs in the bottom of the inning. The Cougars loaded the bases with no outs against Rattler starter Justin Thomas. The left-hander walked Baisley to force in the tying run. Anthony Recker was the next batter and he lined a two-run single to center for a 3-1 Cougar lead.

The Cougars went right back to work in the bottom of the second inning and had eleven batters go to the plate. The first two hitters reached and moved up on a sacrifice bunt. Nick Blasi drilled a two-run double to right to make it 5-1. An error put another runner on base. A wild pitch moved the two runners into scoring position and Baisley drove them both home with a single. Thomas got the second out, but wouldn't get another.

A single by Pineda put two runners on base. A double by Wes Long drove in the fifth run of the inning. A two run single by Raul Padron capped the inning, made the score 10-1, and knocked Thomas out of the game. Jeff Gilmore came on to get the final out of the inning.

But, the Cougars weren't done and Gilmore struggled in the third as Kane County sent ten men to bat. Baisley drove in his fourth run of the night and tenth of the four game series with a sacrifice fly. The other runs came in on a two-run double by Pineda and a single by Wes Long.

The Rattlers got back on the board in the top of the fourth inning on a three run homer by Casey Craig. Wisconsin tacked on another run on an RBI single by Robby Hudson in the fifth to cut the lead to 14-5.

But, the score jumped out to 18-5 with a four run sixth for Kane County. A wild pitch allowed one run to score. Baisley followed with an RBI single (his fifth RBI of the night) and Jose Pineda crushed a two-run homer to left.

Rattler catcher Chao Kuan Wu took over on the mound for the bottom of the seventh inning, but didn't fare much better. He loaded the bases on a pair of hits and a walk. Then, Wu hit Baisley to force in a run for Baisley's sixth RBI of the night.

Hudson moved from shortstop to the mound for the bottom of the eighth and pitched the first 1-2-3 inning by a Rattler pitcher on the evening.

Wu and Hudson became the first Rattler position players to appear in a game since shortstop Corey Freeman pitched 1-2/3 innings against Peoria on July 7, 2002 at Fox Cities Stadium.

The nineteen runs scored against the Rattlers were the most since Peoria beat the Rattlers 20-7 on September 2, 2004.

The Rattlers continue their road trip by starting a four game series against the Burlington Bees on Monday night. The Rattlers will send Paul Fagan (1-5, 5.48ERA) to the mound. Burlington plans on Michael Penn (3-1, 4.15ERA) being their starting pitcher. Game time at Community Field is 7:00pm.
