Coronado's Bat Leads B-Mets to Season-High 10 Runs in Win

Jose Coronado went 3-4 with three RBI and Nick Evans smacked his second home run of the season as Binghamton tied a season-high with 10 runs in a 10-7 victory over Harrisburg at NYSEG Stadium Wednesday night. Coronado, Josh Thole, and Shawn Bowman all collected three-hit games.

Binghamton grabbed the lead in the fourth off Senators' starter Justin Jones when three runs came across the plate. Carl Loadenthal reached with one-out on a throwing error by second baseman Leonard Davis. After an Eric Brown sacrifice Coronado singled to left to score Loadenthal from second. Evans then crushed a two-run home run to left-centerfield to give the B-Mets a 5-2 lead.

The Senators got one back in the top of the sixth off Brown on a solo home run by Edgardo Baez. It was the fifth of the season for him. Harrisburg then cut the score to 5-4 in the seventh after back-to-back doubles by Marvin Lowrance and pinch-hitter Matt Whitney.

An insurance run came across for the B-Mets in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI single by Loadenthal and then Binghamton (24-33) added four more runs in the eighth off Senators' reliever Jack Spradlin. Coronado led off with a walk and Evans reached on a throwing error by Spradlin. Thole then loaded the bases by singling and Josh Petersen followed by driving in Coronado with a sacrifice fly to center. Shawn Bowman then doubled scoring Evans and Thole and Ruben Tejada finished off the scoring by doubling in Bowman on a hard hit ball off the wall in left to make it 10-4.

Harrisburg (19-36) knocked in three in the ninth off Edgar Ramirez to yield the final score of 10-7. Roy Merritt was called upon to get the B-Mets out of the jam and record the final out. He struck out Davis to pin down his eleventh save of the season and his first since May 11.

Coronado provided the B-Mets with their first runs of the series in the bottom of the second after Bowman led the inning off with a single and Loadenthal reached on a one-out walk by Jones. After Brown sacrificed the runners to second and third Coronado drove them in with a line-drive single which dropped in front of a diving Baez in centerfield.

Brown picked up his fourth win, his first in a start, going 6.1 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits. He also tied a season high with six strikeouts.

Jones lost his Eastern-League leading eighth game of the season by going four innings and giving up five runs on nine hits.

Binghamton finishes their three-game series against Harrisburg tomorrow morning. RHP Jenrry Mejia (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make his second AA start for the B-Mets and the Senators will counter with RHP Erik Arnesen (2-2, 3.48 ERA). The first pitch is slated for 10:35 a.m. and the radio broadcast on ESPN 1360 WYOS begins at 10:20 a.m. with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
