Normal CornBelters News Release

NORMAL, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, wasted a complete game on the mound from Chris Carmain and lost 3-0 to the Southern Illinois Miners on Saturday night at the Corn Crib.

The Miners struck in the first inning with a two-out rally, a double to the left field corner by Jerrud Sabourin and an RBI single from Frank Martinez.

Michael Earley extended the guests' lead to 3-0 with a two-run homer in the sixth that just cleared the left field fence.

The CornBelters mustered only three hits while leaving seven runners on base. Carmain (3-1) suffered the loss in his second straight complete game, giving up seven hits while striking out six without a walk. Miners starter Ryan Brockett (1-1) worked six innings for the win.

The home stand concludes with a Sunday afternoon contest with the Miners with first pitch scheduled for 3:05 p.m. in pitching match-up of right-handers, Normal's Kevin Johnson (1-1, 3.66 ERA) and Southern Illinois' Miguel Ramirez (1-3, 3.97).
