
Zaragoza Tosses Complete Game Shutout, Wild Things Win 11-0

WASHINGTON, PA-The Wild Things cruised in game two of their three game series against visiting Traverse City, defeating the Beach Bums by a score of 11-0. Ernesto Zaragoza earned the win for the Wild Things, tossing a complete game, five hit shutout. Alex Phillips suffered the loss.
In just his second start of the 2015 season, Zaragoza gained control of the game early, retiring nine of the first 10 batters faced. He finished his stellar mound performance allowing just five hits, one walk and hurled eight strikeouts on 108 pitches.
On the offensive side, the Wild Things were red hot all night long. In the bottom of the first, Carter Bell singled home Danny Poma to open the scoring. Following a TC error that plated David Popkins, Lee Orr came up to the plate and crushed a pitch over the CONSOL Energy Park scoreboard to make the score 4-0.
The hitting frenzy continued in the bottom of the second when Jeudy Valdez led the inning off with a solo home run to put the Wild Things up 5-0. David Popkins contributed by singling home John Fidanza. Danny Poma scored on an error by the Beach Bums shortstop Sam Bumpers. CJ Beatty then stepped to the plate and hit a double to right center field that scored Popkins and Bell, making the score 9-0 Wild Things after two innings.
An RBI single from Popkins, followed by another run-scoring Beach Bums error allowed the Wild Things to post s seven-run deficit early. A double by CJ Beatty later in the inning gave Washington and Zaragoza a 9-0 advantage heading into the third.
The Wild Things continued their offensive prowess throughout the contest as Valdez connected with another pitch for his second home run of the night in the bottom half of the fifth. Popkins joined in on the slugfest in the bottom of the sixth; hitting a dinger to straight away center for an 11-0 Wild Things lead. Popkins now sits tied for second among leading home run hitters with seven on the season thus far.
Zaragoza completed his complete-game nod with ease; retiring the final six Beach Bums.
The Wild Things and Beach Bums will face off in the rubber match of their three-game series this Sunday, June 7.
