Schaumburg Boomers News Release

SCHAUMBURG, IL - The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, put up a comeback but fell 13-5 to the Frontier Greys in the second game of a weekend series at Boomers Stadium.

Both teams showed prowess at the plate in the seventh inning with Schaumburg posting five runs in the bottom half but succumbing to the Greys eight run seventh inning display.

Boomers center fielder Alexi Colon paced the team with a 2-RBI single that scored Mike Schulze and Jordan Dean in an effort that saw the Boomers clawing from behind the entire game. Schulze also contributed a RBI of his own from the leadoff spot as part of a 3-for-4 night at the plate in the loss.

Schaumburg starter Scott Plaza tossed 6.1 innings in the defeat while striking out three while Frontier starter Justin D'Allessandro kept the Boomers offense in check for just one earned run during his six innings pitched. Schaumburg was able to capitalize on Greys reliever Brett Shankin to the tune of four earned runs but had their damage limited to just the home half of the seventh inning.
