Rascals Offense Leads Way to Victory

Sauget, IL - The Rascals (12-8) hit a season-high five homeruns en route to a 12-3 win over the Gateway Grizzlies (6-15) on Saturday, June 6 at GCS Ballpark. The Rascals hit a season-high five homeruns. RHP Tommy Organ (W, 1-0) earned his first victory of the season. He surrendered three runs on three hits and four walks. He struck out six men over 6.0 innings. RHP Heith Hatfield pitched 2.0 scoreless innings of relief. LHP Anthony Ferrara tossed 1.0 frame in his Rascals debut.

Gateway took a two-run lead in the bottom of the first inning. Madison Beaird walked, Ryan Soares singled, and Rolando Gomez walked to load the bases with no outs. Following a strikeout, Beaird scored on a wild pitch. Ben Waldrip then drove in Soares from third base with a sacrifice fly.

The Grizzlies extended the lead to 3-0 in the third inning when Beaird hit a leadoff double, advanced to third on a balk, and scored on a Gomez sac fly.

The Rascals sent nine men to the plate and scored six runs in the fourth frame. 2B Hector Crespo hit a leadoff homerun, his first of the season. Next C Josh Ludy walked, DH Saxon Butler singled, and LF Zach Kometani walked to load the bases with no outs. CF Curran Redal singled in a pair of runs, then RF Jackson Slaid drove home Kometani on a groundout. 1B Danny Canela capped the inning with a two-run long ball.

After a Ludy walk, Butler hit his second homer of the season in the fifth inning.

The Rascals scored three times on back-to-back homeruns in the sixth inning. Slaid led off with a double. Canela then jacked his second two-run shot of the night. 3B Taylor Ard followed his a solo homer, his sixth of the season; Ard has homered in five straight games.

Ard reached base on an error to begin the eighth inning and advanced to second on a groundout. Butler collected his fourth hit and third RBI on a single that brought home Ard.

Gateway starter JaVaun West (L, 2-2) surrendered six runs, eight hits, and three walks over 3.2 innings. David Murillo allowed five runs on five hits and a walk in 2.1 innings of relief. Jordan Sechler pitched 1.0 scoreless frame, and Jordan Wellander surrendered one unearned run in 1.0 inning. Zach Loraine added 1.0 inning out of the bullpen.

The Rascals wrap up their three-game series against the Gateway Grizzlies on Sunday, June 7 at GCS Ballpark at 6:05 p.m. CST. RHP Joe Scanio (3-1, 3.19) will make his fourth start of the season for the Rascals; the Grizzlies will send RHP Tyler Thompson (0-2, 3.52) to the mound.
