Game #20 - Home Game #14 (7-12), (6-7)

Last time out...

Lake Erie used the long ball to beat the Freedom on Friday night as they scored six of their seven runs via the home run in a 7-6 loss for Florence. Juan Sanchez gave the Crushers the 2-0 lead in the first inning with a two-run home run off Casey Henn. Florence tallied three runs in the third to take a 3-2 lead as Mason Salazar delivered his first pro hit and RBI when he doubled in Travis Weaver. With two outs, Sam Eberle's two-RBI single gave Florence a 3-2 lead. But Anderson Hidalgo's grand slam in the fifth put Lake Erie on top by a count of 6-3. The Crushers tacked on another run in the sixth before the Freedom started to come back. Daniel Fraga's RBI double in the bottom half of the frame got the Freedom to within three. Austin Newell added a home run in the seventh but the Freedom left the bases loaded. They tallied one in the eighth but left them loaded again. 13 men got left on base in the loss.

For Starters...

David Duncan makes his second professional start tonight. His first pro start came against the Evansville Otters on May 23 as he went four innings, giving up three runs on seven hits in a no-decision as the Freedom fell 4-3. His most recent outing came out of the bullpen on May 29, going an inning and two thirds against Normal, allowing one run on two hits in an 8-3 loss for the Freedom. The rookie out of Florida A&M University went 5-5 with a 4.60 ERA in 2014 at FAMU in 72.1 innings on the mound with 16 appearances, 12 starts.

ERA issues...

The Freedom have the worst team ERA in the Frontier League at 5.38.

Looking to even the series...

If the Freedom lose tonight it would be their third straight series loss at home and their fifth straight series loss overall.

A rare loss...

Last night was the Freedom's first loss this season when scoring five or more runs in a game. Florence is now 6-1 when scoring more than five runs.

Get that lead....

The Freedom's record is 6-0 when leading after six innings. The problem for the Freedom is they are being out-scored 31-6 in the fifth inning.

Weird year....

Reliever Matt Eshleman is having a strange season. He has not allowed a hit in 11 appearances. But he's only pitched five innings and has walked 11 batters while giving up three runs.

Against the Crushers...

Florence went 2-4 against the Crushers in 2014, including a 1-2 record at UC Health Stadium.

Slow starts..

Florence started the season out-scoring opponents 10-1 in the first inning, since then the opposition has scored 13 unanswered runs in the frame.

Hit Parade...

The Freedom pitching staff has given up 184 hits on the season, the most in the Frontier League.

Opponents are hitting a league-high .281 against Florence.

Run this way...

The Freedom's 40 stolen bases this season are the most in the Frontier League.

Tonight's Special Jersey Number...

Steve Carrillo is wearing jersey #61 tonight. The jersey will be auctioned off to benefit the Brain Injury Alliance of Kentucky.
