BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - It's time to drop the puck for real! There's been a lot of anticipation in Condorstown to get the 2006-07 season underway and Opening Night is finally here, as the Bakersfield Condors get set to host the Stockton Thunder tonight at the Rabobank Arena.

SERIES HISTORY: The Condors and Thunder met eight times last season, with Bakersfield holding a 7-1-0 series edge. The two teams are slated to meet eight times this season, four in each city.

LAST GAME: OCT. 14 VS. LONG BEACH (PRESEASON) Joel Irving netted a hat trick and added two assists, while Scotty Balan and Andrew Ianiero each chipped in with three points, leading Bakersfield to a 9-1 trouncing of the Long Beach Ice Dogs in the preseason finale at Rabobank Arena. After trailing 1- 0 early, the Condors exploded for nine straight goals, seven coming via the power play. The game was played in front of 4,326, the largest preseason crowd in Condors history.
CONDORS UPDATE: Bakersfield finished second in the Pacific Division last season and had 25-12-1 record after the all-star break, tied for the third best record in the National Conference. The Condors also won a playoff series for the first time in their history, eliminating the Ice Dogs in Game 7 of the Pacific Division Semifinals. Out of Bakersfield's fist 14 games, 10 are at home. Marty Raymond is the only head coach in Condors history to post back-to-back 40 win seasons. He is seven victories away from becoming Bakersfield's all- time winningest coach.
PLAYER NOTES: The Condors begin the 2006-07 season with 12 regulars returning from last year's squad: Balan, Alexandre Bolduc, Scott Borders, Mike Hofstrand, Ianiero, Irving, Reagan Leslie, Josh Liebenow, Tyler Scott, Kevin St. Jacques, Kevin Truelson and Sean Venedam. Borders, still recovering from a broken femur suffered in Game 7 of the Pacific Division Finals, will start the season on the injured list. He's joined by newcomer Steve Rodberg who suffered a knee injury Oct. 10 in the scrimmage against Stockton.

STOCKTON UPDATE: The Thunder finished last in the Pacific Division in 2005-06 with 50 points (18-40-14) and failed to qualify for postseason play. It was their inaugural season in the ECHL. Over the off-season Stockton signed an affiliation agreement with the NHL's Edmonton Oilers. Four players return from last season's squad (Nathan Martz, Steve Slonina, Mike Lalonde and Jeff Lang).
TRANSACTIONS: The Condors placed four players on injured reserve Wednesday (Alex Rogosheske, 3-day; Preston Briggs, 7-day; Borders, 30-day and Rodberg, 30-day). Brett Lutes was acquired from Stockton Wednesday for future considerations. Lutes played with Bakersfield in 2004-05. Nathan Oke, Brian Swiniarski and Micah Sanford were released Wednesday. Neil Stevenson-Moore and Benoit Quessandier were released on Monday.
