Florida Everblades News Release

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (0-1-0) saw the Texas Wildcatters (1-0-0) score five unanswered goals en-route to a 5-2 win on Friday night in front of a crowd of 6,536 at Germain Arena. Kevin Baker scored twice and goaltender Matt Yeats stopped 29 shots to help the Wildcatters open the season with the win.

As they did in two pre-season games vs. the Everblades, the Wildcatters had to come from behind to earn the win. The Everblades opened the game with a pair of first period goals to two newcomers. Defenseman Brett Peterson opened the scoring with a 4-on-4 tally at 9:06 of the opening frame and rookie Brett Carson tallied his first professional goal shortly after at 12:22 slipping a shot through Yeats on the power play for the 2-0 Florida lead.

The second period opened with the Wildcatters holding a four-minute power play and they would cash in. After another penalty was whistled against the Everblades the Wildcatters tallied on the 5-on-3 when Marco Rosa jammed a rebound past Everblades net minder Craig Kowalski just 2:26 into the middle period. Five minutes later Baker notched his first goal of the contest at 7:34 on another 5-on-3 power play situation.

The first 5-on-5 goal of the night came at 10:04 of the second period when Brandin Cote slapped a shot past Kowalski from the top of the right circle to give Texas the lead for good. Leon Hayward added an even strength goal for Texas at 5:09 of the third period and Baker closed out the scoring with his second power play goal of the night at 7:52 of the final frame.

Kowalski suffered the loss in net for the Everblades allowing the five goals on 36 shots, dropping his record to 0-1-0, while Yeats opened the year with the win.

On the power play the Everblades converted on one of their ten chances, while the Wildcatters closed out the night 3-for-13 on the power play.
