Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release

THE GAME: Hockey's Back! The Pensacola Ice Pilots regular season is set to start tonight when they take on the Cincinnati Cyclones at US Bank Arena in downtown Cincinnati. Fans can tune into the game beginning with a special 30-minute edition of Ice Pilots Countdown to Face-off at 6 pm, play by play story to follow at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Classic Country Am1620.

THE OPENING WEEKEND: This is the opening weekend of the season for the Pensacola Ice Pilots, but it's a rarity for the team and their opponents.

This is the first ever meeting between the Ice Pilots and the Cyclones in the history of both franchises. The Ice Pilots have played their two other opponents this weekend the Johnstown Chiefs and the Reading Royals a total of two times and are winless in those meetings.

THIS AND THAT: The Pensacola Ice Pilots arrived in the State of Ohio this week and practiced in Dayton. After their game in Cincinnati, the Ice Pilots will move on to Johnstown PA on Saturday and then Reading, PA on Sunday afternoon before returning home.

The Ice Pilots home opener is set for Friday, Oct. 27 at 7:05 pm against their divisional rival the Texas Wildcatters.

ICE PILOTS BREAKDOWN: This will be George Dupont's first full season with the Pensacola Ice Pilots. Dupont has returned just five players from a year ago and also brought back a couple of familiar faces in Jordan Krestanvoich and Dwayne Hay who were part of the Braham Cup Championship team of the 2004-2005 season. Dupont also added grit with Dan Sullivan from the Augusta Lynx in a trade and scoring with Derek Krestanovich and Colin Hemingway.

NOT PLAYING: Ice Pilots goaltender Michael Mole is currently with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League. Mole was called up part way through training camp after New York Islanders Goaltender Rick DiPietro suffered an injury. Defenseman Stuart Kerr is on the Seven-Day Injured reserve.

NEW ARRIVAL: The Pensacola Ice Pilots signed defenseman Troy Barnes this week to help out the hockey club. Barnes was released from the Toledo Storm training camp. He spent four years at the University of Maine.
