October 20, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Texas Wildcatters News Release

Estero, FL - The Texas Wildcatters opened up the 2006-07 ECHL Season in stellar fashion with a 5-2 win over the Florida Everblades in Southwest Florida. The Wildcatters scored five unanswered goals in the second and third periods to come back and defeat Florida. It was the first opening night win for the Wildcatters in their brief three year history.

Led by Kevin Baker's two goals and goaltender Matt Yeats' 29 saves, the Wildcatters came from behind to defeat Florida. Brandin Cote scored the eventual game winning goal at 10:41 of the second period. The Everblades opened up the scoring in the first period with two goals that were three minutes apart. Brent Peterson and Brett Carson beat goaltender Matt Yeats with shots to put the Everblades up 2-0. After that it was all Wildcatters.

Marco Rosa struck first with a 5 on 3 power play goal at the 2:28 mark of period number two. Baker followed with the first of his two goals. This one also came on a 5 on 3 power play and the Wildcatters tied it at two. Brandin Cote broke the tie with a shot from just inside the blue line and gave the Catters their first lead of the game. That would be all Texas would need as Leon Hayward added a goal in the third period and Baker tallied his second on the power play to give the Wildcatters a 5-2 win.

The Wildcatters went 3 for 13 on the power play while Florida finished up 1 for 10. The Wildcatters outshot the Everblades 35 to 31. In the loss, Craig Kowalski made 30 saves for Florida. A crowd of 6,536 took in the opening night action at Germain Arena.

Prior to the game, Wildcatters Head Coach Malcolm Cameron announced that the team has traded Rane Carnegie to Bakersfield for financial considerations.

Tomorrow night's game will be Internet only and can be listened to at www.wildcattershockey.com. Game time is 6:30 CT.
