Northwoods Traverse City Pit Spitters

Complete Game Shutout for Jones, Pit Spitters Win 2-0

June 16, 2019 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release

Traverse City, MI - In a game that showed signs of being a pitcher's duel from the very beginning, it was Kyle Jones (FR Toledo) who got the better of Kyle Seebach and the Rockford Rivets, throwing a complete game shut out. The effort powered the Pit Spitters to a 2-0 victory on Father's Day, in front of a crowd of better than 1,200 fans.

Kyle Jones spent the majority of the afternoon in cruise control. He retired Rivets batters in order in six separate innings, needing only 103 pitches to toss the shutout. He only yielded two hits and a pair of walks, to go along with his five strikeouts.

At the plate, the story was Jake Wilson (JR Bowling Green.) With the score tied in the seventh inning, Wilson won a ten pitch battle against Rivets reliever Jordan Nelson, by delivering a two run home run to right, the first homer hit by a Pit Spitters batter at home this season. The one strike would prove to be all the offense Jones would need.

The effort takes Kyle Jones' record to 2-1 on the season and the tough luck loss falls to Kyle Seebach who falls to 0-2.

The Pit Spitters return to action Monday with a 7:05 p.m. rematch with the Rockford Rivets. Every Monday is "Dime Dog Mondays," at Pit Spitters Park, with hot dogs costing just ten cents. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m.
