Comeback Ends in OT Loss to Milwaukee
January 26, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Peoria Rivermen News Release
The Peoria Rivermen erased a two-goal deficit to earn a point as the Milwaukee Admirals escaped with a 3-2 overtime win on Saturday night at Carver Arena. The Rivermen outshot the Admirals 40-25, and tied the game with just 1:29 left in regulation, only to see Chris Mueller score the game-winner at 1:00 of overtime for Milwaukee.
Jack MacLellan opened the scoring at 7:01 of the first period with the first goal of his professional career. Jani Lajunen's shot rolled over the arm of Jake Allen and into the crease, MacLellan jammed the puck into an open net.
Milwaukee increased their lead to 2-0 at 9:37 of the second period on Taylor Beck's seventh of the season. Following a shot from Anthony Bitetto that hit the post, Beck slipped the puck into the empty net from inside the crease.
Chris Bruton put the Rivermen on the board at 15:20 with his third goal of the season. Brett Sonne and Anthony Nigro were awarded assists as Bruton put Sonne's rebound over the outstretched arm of Jeremy Smith.
Derek Nesbitt scored the game-tying goal at 18:31 of the third period on Peoria's sixth and final power-play opportunity. Following two minor penalties within 1:32 of each other, T.J. Hensick hit Nesbitt with a cross-ice pass in the right circle who one-time home his team-leading 15th goal of the season.
One minute into overtime, during a netfront scramble, Mueller scored the game-winning goal. Mike Moore and Brad Winchester were awarded the assists in the overtime goal.
The Rivermen were 1-for-6 on the power play while the Admirals were 1-for-4. Peoria is now 4-3-1-0 against Milwaukee this season.
Following the all-star break, the Rivermen will play the Chicago Wolves at the Allstate Arena Saturday at 7 p.m. All games can be heard on CD Country 107.9 FM or online through www.rivermen.net.
