January 26, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators defeated the Hershey Bears in a shootout tonight, 3-2, in their second consecutive win of that nature. Just 24 hours earlier the B-Sens defeated the Syracuse Crunch 1-0 in a shootout.
At 7:29 of the first period, forward Ryan Stoa, assisted by Brett Flemming and Boyd Kane, put Hershey on the board first as he netted his fifth goal of the season. B-Sens forward Mike Hoffman would answer at 17:21, unassisted, with his twelfth ringer of the year to tie the game at one.
Forward Mark Stone's sixth goal this season would come at 2:02 of the second frame to give the B-Sens a brief lead. Assists were credited to Derek Grant and David Dziurzynski. The Bears then tied the game once more as defenseman Steve Oleksy, assisted by Mike Carman and Mathieu Beaudoin, scored at 6:51.
The score remained 2-2 through the duration of the third and sudden death overtime.
In the shootout the Bears failed to capitalize on three attempts while the B-Sens beat backstop Dany Sabourin all three times. Mika Zibanejad, Stephane Da Costa, and Jack Downing all found the back of the net to secure the 3-2 win for Binghamton.
Robin Lehner improved to 2-1 in shootouts this season with his victory tonight as he made 38 saves on the 40 shots he faced and was perfect in the shootout, stopping all Hershey shooters. Sabourin came away with the loss, stopping 29 of 31 Binghamton shots through regulation and overtime.
The B-Sens return to action next Friday, Feb. 1 as they visit the St. John's IceCaps. Game time is 6 p.m. Eastern. Fans can listen live on "Binghamton's Classic Hits" BIG 107.5 (WBBI-FM) beginning 15 minutes before game time as Grady Whittenburg, the voice of the B-Sens, hosts the Countdown to Faceoff.
