Columbus Recalls Defenseman Zenith Komarniski

Syracuse, NY (February 25, 2004) – The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled defenseman Zenith Komarniski. The team also announced that they have signed defenseman Jonathan Zion to a professional try-out contract.

Komarniski, 25, has appeared in 34 games with the Crunch this season, recording 1goal, 13 assists and 63 penalty minutes. In 274 career AHL games with Syracuse and Manitoba, Komarniski has tallied 34 goals, 72 assists and 564 penalty minutes. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Komarniski was acquired by Columbus from Vancouver for Sean Pronger on October 30, 2003.

Zion, 22, has split time this season between Reading (ECHL) and Greenville (ECHL) appearing in a combined 35 games with 7 goals, 23 assists and 14 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in eight games with the Manchester Monarchs this season, recording two assists and six penalty minutes. A native of Nepean, Ontario, Zion was originally drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs with their fourth selection, 100th overall, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

Syracuse hosts Toronto tonight for a 7 p.m. face-off. Friday, February 27, the Crunch hosts Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for Dasani Glass Night, presented by Coca-Cola.
