Hockey Legend in Hartford
February 25, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Connecticut Whale News Release
Hartford, February 25, 2004 - Arguably the most recognizable goaltender in the United States will be at center ice at the Hartford Civic Center Saturday night to help note the achievements of Hartford Wolf Pack netminder Jason LaBarbera. Jim Craig will participate in a ceremonial puck drop and present LaBarbera with a plaque that marks his shutout milestone. Craig will also be signing autographs and, throughout the game, a number of lucky winners will receive autographed pictures of Craig.
On February 13, LaBarbera set a new American Hockey League record for most shutouts by a goaltender during the regular season. With his 10th shutout, he surpassed the record set by Buffalo's Gordie Bell back in 1942-43. He continues to set the bar, with back-to-back shutouts (number 11 and 12) last week. The Wolf Pack also set the team record for shutouts during the regular season when they blanked Bridgeport last Friday. The team now has 15 shutouts, with 23 games left in the regular season.
Jim Craig backstopped the gold medal winning 1980 'Miracle on Ice' US Olympic hockey team and is a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame. Today, Craig is a successful businessman and consultant and lives in North Easton, MA.
The AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack hockey club is part of Madison Square Garden L.P. Cablevision Systems Corporation owns a controlling interest in MSG L.P., which also includes the New York Rangers (NHL), New York Knicks (NBA), the New York Liberty (WNBA), the MSG Network, Fox Sports Net and the Madison Square Garden arena complex.
