Brampton Steelheads News Release

Barrie, ON - Coming off back-to-back wins, the Steelheads visited the Barrie Colts Thursday evening for their first meeting of the season. With just one point separating the Central Division rivals, the Steelheads looked to keep their winning streak alive and slide past the Colts into 2nd place.

The Steelheads came out riding the momentum of their recent 6-2 win over the London Knights. Back to back penalties to Prophet and Radke would prove costly for the Colts, as the Steelheads would have a 2 man-advantage early in the first. The chemistry continued between Bryson Cianfrone and Jimmy Lodge as the two capitalized on the power play to set up Burnside and give the Trout an early lead. The Steelheads welcomed Jared Walsh back to the line up, who had an immediate impact on the blue-line playing alongside Burnside. Martin stood tall in goal as the Steelheads maintained their 1-0 lead for the remainder of the first period.

Mississauga had a number of power play opportunities in the second but couldn't capitalize on the man-advantage. Cordell James would solve Martin midway through the period to put the Colts on the board. Webster and Scott drew the assists on the goal that would send hundreds of Teddy Bears flying onto the ice for the Colts' annual Teddy Bear Toss game. It would continue to be an all Barrie period with two more unanswered goals from Lemieux and Radke. A roughing penalty to Devlin at the end of the second would see the Steelheads start the third period shorthanded.

Although they were down 3-1 and on the penalty kill, the Steelheads came out flying in the third as Sam Babintsev potted a shorthanded marker just 22 seconds into the period to narrow Barrie's lead 3-2. Cianfrone drew the lone assist on Babintsev's 8th of the season. The shorthanded goal brought some spark to the Steelheads offence as they had a number of good chances early on, but Carbonara would regain the Colts' 2-goal lead at 7:31 of the third. A number of penalties made it difficult for the Trout to get back on the board, but Cianfrone would keep the dream alive with a late goal to bring the Steelheads within one. With Martin pulled, the Steelheads looked for the equalizer with the extra man, but despite a number of good chances Andrew Mangiapane found the empty net to solidify the win for the Colts.

The Steelheads return home to the Hershey Centre tomorrow evening to host the Plymouth Whalers in the annual Peel Regional Police Toys for Tots game. Fans are encouraged to bring a new, un-wrapped toy to the game to donate, as members of the Peel Regional Police will be distributing them to under-privileged children in the Region of Peel over the holiday season. Great tickets for tomorrow's game are still available online through Ticketmaster and at the Hershey Centre box office.
