
OHL Announces November Academic Players of the Month

Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League today announced the OHL Academic Players of the Month for November 2014, including defenceman Jakob Chychrun of the Sarnia Sting, sophomore forward Mason Kohn of the Kitchener Rangers, goaltender Stephen Dhillon of the Niagara IceDogs, and centreman Sam Harding of the Oshawa Generals.
West Division: In addition to being the first overall pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection and getting off to a strong start in his OHL career, Sarnia Sting rookie Jakob Chychrun is the West Division Academic Player of the Month for November. Currently an eleventh grade student at Northern Collegiate in Sarnia, Chychrun has excelled in his studies with an 82.5% average across four courses including University level Mathematics and Chemistry courses. The 6'2", 194Ib defenceman is a graduate of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens Minor Midget program and has three goals and four assists in 12 games this season.
Midwest Division: Kitchener Rangers forward Mason Kohn is the Midwest Division Academic Player of the Month for November. The 17 year-old native of Davie, Florida is in his second OHL season and is a grade 12 student at Eastwood Collegiate Institute in Kitchener. Kohn is described by his teachers as "hard working and committed to any and all tasks he is assigned. His persistence and drive to succeed are being rewarded both in the classroom and on the ice." The 5'10", 188Ib forward has made a smooth transition from the American to Canadian education system and plans to attend Wilfrid Laurier University upon graduation from high school. Kohn has a goal and four assists in 17 games with the Rangers this season and is eligible for the 2015 NHL Draft.
Central Division: The Central Division Academic Player of the Month for November is rookie goaltender Stephen Dhillon of the Niagara IceDogs. The 16 year-old grade 11 student at Governor Simcoe Secondary School in St. Catharines is described as an "outstanding student" by his teachers. "Stephen is eager to learn and often goes beyond the required instructions on his assignments and projects. He is a great ambassador for our school and the Niagara IceDogs organization." Dhillon's 96.3% average speaks for itself. The Buffalo, NY, native was Niagara's third round (52nd overall) pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection and made his OHL debut on October 11.
East Division: Sophomore centreman Sam Harding of the Oshawa Generals is the East Division Academic Player of the Month for November. A grade 12 student at Blyth Academy in Whitby, Harding currently holds an 85% average in a full course load that includes University level Math and Science classes. Sam is characterized as "a very personable and dedicated individual" by his teachers, teammates and coaches. Eligible for the 2015 NHL Draft, the 17 year-old native of Newmarket recorded 14 points in 63 games as a rookie last season and is has five goals and five assists through his first 24 games with the Generals this season.
