December 4, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
Brendan Perlini scored in his season debut, but the Niagara IceDogs fell 5-2 to the Guelph Storm Thursday night at the Meridian Centre.
It didn't take him long to have an impact in his first game of the season. Perlini capitalized on a breakaway to give the IceDogs a 1-0 lead just 4:02 into the first period. Robby Fabbri redirected a point shot past IceDogs goaltender Brandon Hope to tie the game, before Carter Verhaeghe made it 2-1 right before the buzzer to end the first.
Pius Suter and Luke Cairns scored goals in the second period for the Storm, despite being outshot 15-4 in the middle frame.
Cairns added his second goal of the game at 8:32 of the third period and Zac Leslie scored a power play tally just past the midway point to give Guelph a 5-2 lead. Justin Nichols played well between the pipes for the Storm, making 35 saves. Hope made 23 saves for the IceDogs.
The IceDogs are back in action tomorrow night in Ottawa, when they face the 67's for the third time this season.
