Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

The West Virginia Power beat the Hickory Crawdads 3-2 on Tuesday at Appalachian Power Park. Colton Cain earned his fourth win while limiting the Crawdads to two runs over six innings, and Dan Grovatt paced the Power offense in the victory.

West Virginia took a 2-0 lead during the bottom of the first inning. Drew Maggi and Mel Rojas Jr. each reached on base hits to start the home half of the inning. Grovatt doubled in Maggi for a 1-0 lead, and Rojas later scored on a ground out by Cole White.

Cain surrendered two hits over the first two innings, and Hickory got on the board with a pair of runs in the third. Jonathan Roof led off with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. After Jurickson Profar was hit by a pitch, Cain threw a wild pitch that allowed Roof to score from third. Power catcher Elias Diaz tracked down the baseball as Profar was trying to take third. Diaz throw to third traveled into left field and Profar was able to score the tying run.

In the fifth inning with two outs, Rojas Jr. walked and scored on Grovatt's second double of the game to give West Virginia the lead back and for good at 3-2.

Cain (4-4) combined with relievers Vincent Payne and Zac Fuesser to limit the Crawdads to four base runners from the fourth inning on. Fuesser pitched the ninth and earned his first save of the season. Luke Jackson (0-1) was charged with the loss after allowing all three Power runs over five innings of work. The Power compiled nine hits en route to a 2-1 series win over the Crawdads in front of a school day game crowd of 5,570.

West Virginia will travel to Lexington on Wednesday to open a four-game road trip. The Power will return to Appalachian Power Park on Sunday to host the Delmarva Shorebirds at 4:05 pm.

POWER RECORD: 25-25
