
Shorebirds Defeat BlueClaws 5-4 in Series Finale

Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds (28-24) held the Lakewood BlueClaws (27-24) scoreless over the final four innings to earn a 5-4 series finale win at FirstEnergy Park on Tuesday night. The Shorebirds put an end to a three-game losing skid.
The BlueClaws were first to strike in the first inning. Zach Collier reached first on a fielder's choice and got into scoring position on a groundout. Then, Jim Murphy delivered a line drive into left to give the BlueClaws a 1-0 lead.
The Shorebirds responded in the third. Dudley Leonora drew a one out walk. Then, Ervis Manzanillo was called for a balk to advance Leonora to second. Brenden Webb followed with a flare single into left field to score Leonora to tie the game at 1-1. Webb then stole second and scored on a single by Mikey Planeta down the right field line.
The BlueClaws answered with two runs to regain the lead at 3-2 in the bottom of the third. Murphy and Michael Dabbs hit back-to-back two out RBI singles to give the 'Claws the lead.
The see-saw battle continued in the top of the fourth when the Shorebirds scored two more to regain the lead. Mike Flacco and Kieron Pope hit singles to open the inning. Then, Michael Ohlman hit a double down the third base line that deflected off the glove of Geancarlo Mendez to score Flacco. Two batters later, Dudley Leonora hit a hard grounder to second to score Pope from third.
The BlueClaws used consecutive doubles to tie the game at 4-4. Mendez and Murphy connected on doubles to knot the game.
In the seventh inning, Brenden Webb set the table with the double off the center field wall. A groundout by Planeta advanced Webb to third base. With two outs, Mychal Givens beat out an infield single to score Webb.
Luis Noel earned the win over six innings. He scattered nine hits and allowed three earned runs. Ashur Tolliver tossed two scoreless innings of relief and David Walters picked up the save in the ninth inning.
The BlueClaws outhit the Shorebirds 10-8.
