Louisville Bats News Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Louisville Bats (53-75) dropped Wednesday night's contest to the Columbus Clippers (74-54) by a 5-2 score at Huntington Park. Christian Colon hit his 10th home run of the season, becoming the seventh different Bat this season to reach double digits.

The Bats were loaded with Major League rehabbers tonight, with right-hander Tyler Mahle (0-2, 9.00) leading the way with his second rehab start for Louisville. He got the loss, giving up one earned run on two hits in 2.2 innings, walking one and striking out five on 53 pitches and 30 strikes.

Also on rehab assignment tonight were first baseman Derek Dietrich, who went 0-for-3 before leaving the game in the seventh, and catcher Curt Casali, who went 1-for-4.

Louisville trailed 3-0 heading into the fifth inning, when Nick Longhi doubled and scored on a Blake Trahan RBI groundout to make it 3-1. In the sixth inning, Colon hammered a James Karinchak offering into the stands for his 10th home run of the season.

Seven individuals have now homered at least 10 times for Louisville this season, which ties a franchise record set by the 1999 RiverBats. Colon joins Aristides Aquino, Brian O'Grady, Josh VanMeter, Longhi, Narciso Crook and Rob Refsnyder.

The home run made it a one-run deficit for Louisville, before trouble occurred in the bottom of the sixth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Columbus' Eric Stamets hit a pop up in the area of first base, with Louisville's defenders losing the ball and allowing it to drop. Columbus took a 5-2 lead on that play, which would be the final score.

On Thursday night, the Bats will hope to avoid the four-game sweep with right-hander Tejay Antone (2-7, 5.53) on the mound. Columbus will counter with former Reds farmhand, southpaw Scott Moss (1-0, 3.60) with another 6:35 first pitch.
