Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers completed the home portion of their schedule by beating the Dayton Bombers, 3-2, in overtime at WesBanco Arena Wednesday night. Sean Collins one-timed a pass from Kyle Rank from the right faceoff circle for his second goal of the game, 1:05 into the extra session to end the game.

A solid first period of hockey helped them build a 2-0 lead in the opening 20 minutes. Sean Collins opened the scoring by beating Rejean Beauchemin at 8:35 after collecting a rebound from a Jon D'Aversa shot. For Collins it was his 13th goal and 54th point in his 53rd game.

Rank continued his tear through the ECHL in his third stint with the team. He blasted his 10th of the year from the left faceoff circle at 12:32. A pair of rookies in their first 10 games with the Nailers, Sean Berkstresser and Matt Dias, assisted on the play.

Dayton used a power-play goal to cut the Nailers lead in half just 4:53 into the second period. Brad Bonello took a pass from Jim Henkemeyer and ripped one between the legs of Ryan Scott. The Bombers tied the game at the 7:04 mark of the third, again on the power play. Petr Phol's pass found Henkemeyer who notched his second goal of the season by slipping it five-hole on Scott.

A penalty in overtime gave Wheeling the four-on-three advantage to setup the Collins goal. D'Averasa worked the puck to Rank at the goal line to start the play. Rank then slid a pass directly through the slot to Collins creeping in from the top of the circle. His one-time shot picked top shelf and ended the game.

Wheeling will travel to Johnstown to finish up their season series on Friday at 7:05pm. They will then move onto Elmira on Saturday at 7:35pm. Game broadcasts are available on the Mix 97.3 as well as on www.wheelingnailers.com.
