April 2, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release
Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons came back from three separate one-goal deficits, and defeated the Stockton Thunder 4-3 in a shootout on Tuesday in front of 4,639 fans in the regular-season home-finale at Save Mart Center. With the win, the Falcons clinch the number three seed in the National Conference Playoffs.
Stockton got on the board first 4:22 into the opening period. Kris Mayotte turned aside Brian Lee's shot from the left-wing circle, but Lance Monych picked up the rebound in the high slot, and beat Mayotte back to the front of the net for his 29th goal of the season.
The Falcons pulled even late in the period at 16:51. Daryl Marcoux raced across the Stockton line and sent a quick shot to the front of the net which was stopped by goaltender Tim Boron. But, Josh Prudden gathered in the loose puck on the left-wing side, and beat Boron to the top shelf for his seventh goal of the season, and extending his scoring streak to five games.
The two clubs traded power-play goals in the second period, setting up a 3-3 tie after 40 minutes.
Monych scored his second of the night 3:26 into the second period, one-timing a Ryan MacMurchy shot past Mayotte.
Fresno answered at 8:46. Kenny Bernard moved the puck to Luke Curtin at the blue line, and he beat Boron with a long shot from the point for his 12th goal of the year.
The Thunder added their second power-play goal at the 12-minute mark as David Rohlfs beat Mayotte with a sweeping shot from a wide angle.
The Falcons pulled even at 3 at 18:21 of the period as Matt O'Dette tipped home a second-chance opportunity for his sixth goal of the season.
The score remained tied through the rest of regulation and into overtime. In the shootout, Stockton's Tim Verbeek scored in round three to give the Thunder a 1-0 edge, but goals from Stuart MacRae in round four and Brian O'Hanley in round five gave Fresno the edge, and Mayotte stopped MacMurchy on Stockton's fifth shot to give the Falcons the win.
