Cloyd Spins Six Strong Innings, Rainiers Suffer Second-Straight Loss to Nashville

Tacoma, WA - Right-hander Tyler Cloyd threw six innings of one-run baseball and Tim Lopes went 2-for-5 with a run on Saturday at Cheney Stadium, but the Tacoma Rainiers dropped their second straight game against the Nashville Sounds, 4-2.

Cloyd (1-5) made the start for Tacoma (30-33) and allowed one home run across six frames, but struck out eight Nashville (24-38) hitters before handing the ball over to Matt Carasiti. The 27-year-old allowed two runs and collected two strikeouts across 1 2/3 innings in his Cheney Stadium debut.

With the Rainiers trailing Nashville, 2-0, Austin Nola singled home Lopes on a ground ball for Tacoma's first run of the game in the seventh to narrow the deficit, 2-1.

An inning later, Ian Miller grounded into a double-play with the bases loaded that sent Kristopher Negron to the plate.

Right-hander Parker Markel surrendered a run over the final 1 1/3 innings and the Rainiers were retired in order in the ninth to close the game.

The Rainiers will play for their first win of the series against the Sounds on Sunday at Cheney Stadium. First pitch is at 1:35 pm PDT as left-hander Anthony Misiewicz (2-2, 5.55) takes the hill for Tacoma.
