Tacoma, WA - Austin Nola launched his seventh home run of the season and Tim Lopes went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI on Friday, but the Tacoma Rainiers, playing as La Familia de Tacoma, left the potential tying run on in the ninth as their rally came up short against the Nashville Sounds in the four-game series opener at Cheney Stadium, 7-5.

Left-hander Justus Sheffield (2-5) made the start for the Rainiers (30-32) and surrendered five runs across 2 2/3 innings, but struck out five Nashville (23-38) hitters before handing the ball over to Reggie McClain, who gave up no runs and had two strikeouts across four frames. The four inning effort was McClain's longest out of the bullpen this season as the 26-year-old lowered his season ERA to 1.44 across all three levels he has played at.

With Tacoma behind, 5-0, Ian Miller doubled home Nola and Kristopher Negron to narrow the deficit in the bottom of the fourth. Shortly after, Lopes drove in John Andreoli and Chris Mariscal with a single that got Tacoma within a run.

Nola provided the game's final run in the home half of the eighth when he belted a solo shot over the left center field fence.

Chris Mariscal and Kelby Tomlinson reached in the bottom of the ninth, but Nashville reliever Jake Lemoine struck out the final two hitters of the game, leaving the winning run at the plate.
