Nashville Sounds News Release
TACOMA, Washington - Tim Dillard tossed 6 1/3 strong innings, and Chase d'Arnaud homered and knocked in four runs to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 7-5 victory over the Tacoma Rainiers on Friday night at Cheney Stadium. Dillard struck out a season-high seven and notched his 43rd win all-time as a Sound, and the team snapped a five-game losing streak.
Dillard posted his second consecutive quality start, and this one came with the Sounds still short-handed and overworked in the bullpen. The Sounds gave him an early five-run lead with a big third inning. Matt Davidson delivered an RBI single, Andy Ibanez and Tyler Pill drew bases-loaded walks from Tacoma starter and Tennessee native Justus Sheffield, and d'Arnaud smashed a two-run single for a 5-0 game.
Dillard yielded two runs in the fourth, and Tacoma got two unearned runs against him in the seventh to cut the Sounds' lead to 5-4, but d'Arnaud launched a two-run homer in the eighth to re-pad the lead, 7-4. Locke St. John gave up one run in the eighth in his Sounds debut, and Jake Lemoine worked around trouble in the ninth and fanned two to nail down his first save. Dillard gave up four runs - two earned - and threw a season-high 98 pitches over the 6 1/3 frames. He also induced 10 groundouts to only one flyout.
The Sounds and Rainiers continue the four-game series Saturday night at 7:05 CT. Esmerling Vazquez (NR) will make his Sounds debut, and Tyler Colvin (1-4, 5.65) is scheduled for Tacoma.
