Clippers Out-Mash Hens in a Battle of the Bats
July 5, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release
Sunday evening in Columbus proved to be one to forget for the Toledo Mud Hens as they got beat by the Clippers 13-5. After a dominant June, Thad Weber made his first start of July for Toledo, and was knocked around by the offense of Columbus. The Hens tallied ten hits, but couldn't scratch across nearly enough runs to steal a victory.
Down 4-0 heading into the sixth inning, the Mud Hens' offense awoke in a big way. Corey Jones led off the inning with his twelfth double of the season, and then was moved to third on a one out single from Daniel Fields. Dixon Machado got Toledo on the board with an RBI double that scored Jones and moved Fields up to third. Steven Moya tied the game with one mighty swing of the bat, hitting a home run for the second time in as many days.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Clippers exploded for seven runs to reclaim the lead. Lonnie Chisenhall led off with a solo shot, and then Columbus opened the floodgates on Toledo. To cap off the sixth, Jesus Aguilar hit a three run homer to put the Clippers up 11-4.
Machado led off the eighth inning with his second double of the day, and then was knocked in by the newly acquired Trayvon Robinson. However, five runs were all the Hens could muster Sunday night. The Clippers put up a run in each the seventh and the eighth inning, and Toledo went quietly in the ninth.
The Mud Hens take on the Clippers once more on Monday at 12:05 p.m. in Columbus.
