Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The RailRiders fell to the visiting Buffalo Bisons 4-2 in front of a sellout crowd on Saturday night at PNC Field.
LET'S GET SERIESOUS: The RailRiders and Bisons have split their six meetings thus far with the road team winning each time. SWB swept the Bisons at Buffalo from June 8-10, but Buffalo has won three straight at PNC Field including a two-game sweep of last weekend's rain-shortened set.
DOUBLE DIPPIN': Today the teams will play a day-night doubleheader with a pair of nine-inning games. This was prompted by the June 27 rainout in Moosic. This marks the RailRiders' first day-night doubleheader since a scheduled such twinbill at home against Norfolk on June 22, 2013.
FULL HOUSE: Last night saw a complete sellout of 10,000 fans, the first of the season for the RailRiders. PNC Field last boasted 10,000 in attendance for the July 25, 2014 contest against Pawtucket.
HOME WOES: With a season-worst four straight losses in Moosic, the RailRiders stand six games below .500 at PNC Field (19-25) and 13 games over on the road (26-13). The team has hit .283 on the road compared to a .258 mark at home. On the road, SWB has scored 207 runs in 39 games (5.3/game). At home, the squad has plated 161 runs in 44 games (3.7/game). The pitching has performed worse on the road (3.67 ERA) than at home (3.49 ERA). No IL team has a better road winning percentage than the RailRiders (.667), who have won 19 of 25 away from PNC Field.
ALL GOOD THINGS: Austin Romine lost the IL's longest hitting streak of 2015 at 19 games. He went 0-for-4 with a strikeout and a line drive out to second base. Romine hit .377 (29-for-77) during his run, one that came despite a nearly week-long layoff in the wake of being hit in the head with a fastball. Adonis Garcia set the RailRiders era record with a 21-gamer from July 17-Aug. 30, 2014 that tied for the longest in the league last season. Red Barons shortstop Pablo Ozuna set the overall SWB mark with a 27-gamer from July 27-Aug. 24, 2004.
I AM THE LAW: Aaron Judge went 0-for-4 as his modest six-game string of swinging success came to an end. In his first five Triple-A affairs, he went 2-for-17 (.118) with five strikeouts. In the six games thereafter he went 10-for-23 (.435) with six walks. During his short SWB tenure, he has crushed left-handed pitchers (7-for-13, .538/.684/.923/1.607) while he has struggled against right-handers (5-for-31, .161/.229/.161/.390).
KNOW YOUR COLE: Cole Figueroa posted his ninth multi-hit showing in 11 games and his seventh in a row. He went 3-for-4 with a steal of home for a run scored. He has lifted his batting average to a season-best .313. His average sat at .184 after an 0-for-3 day at Norfolk on May 11. Since then, he has hit .388/.438/.529/.967 over 43 games played. In that time he ranks among the IL's best in AVG (1st), OBP (1st), SLG (2nd) and OPS (2nd).
BIRD IS THE WORD: A series of roster moves yesterday included the arrival of first base prospect Greg Bird from Double-A Trenton. The Arizona Fall League MVP this past off-season walked in his first Triple-A plate appearance during an 0-for-3 night.
BOBBY'S WORLD: Rob Segedin was sent do Double-A Trenton yesterday despite much-improved play of late. Through May, he owned slashes of .236/.299/.360/.659. Since the calendar flipped to June, his season has changed dramatically. He has hit safely in 11 of his 13 games played in that time, going 18-for-50 (.360) with six extra-base hits, eight RBIs, three walks and 10 runs scored. His efforts have shot his average up to .281, the best it has been since he closed play on April 26 at .303.
