Marin's Strong Outing Leads Knights Past Braves 5-4

(LAWRENCEVILLE, GA) - Charlotte Knights starter Terance Marin delivered another strong outing to earn the win over the Gwinnett Braves in a 5-4 victory. The 8.2 innings pitched was the second-longest outing by a Knights pitcher this season - two days after Brad Penny's 9-inning complete game.
Marin earned his third win of the season on Sunday, allowing four runs and six hits over 8.2 innings pitched. The Modesto, California native entered the game with a 29-inning scoreless streak to begin his Triple-A career, and pushed that mark to 31 consecutive innings before surrendering a run in the bottom of the third frame. The streak is the longest for Marin at any level in his career, and the longest by any Knight this season.
With the Knights ahead 5-2 in the ninth inning, Cedric Hunter delivered a two-out, two-run homer to bring the Braves within a run. Hunter was the last batter Marin faced in the ballgame, yielding to LHP Zach Phillips to record the final out. The lefty got Daniel Castro to fly out to end the ballgame - earning his sixth save of the season.
The first run allowed by Marin this season came when Castro scored on a sacrifice-fly by Jose Peraza in the bottom of the third inning. A second run came the following frame when Sean Kazmar connected on his first home run of the season - a solo shot that tied the game a 2-2.
The Knights took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the third, with Micah Johnson and Matt Davidson each contributing an RBI. After Kazmar's homer tied the game again, Jason Coats delivered a two-RBI single to put Charlotte ahead 4-2.
Davidson pushed the lead to 5-2 with a key insurance run in the top of the seventh inning on his second sacrifice-fly of the game. The pair of RBI for both Davidson and Coats pushed their totals to 45 on the season - tied for the team lead in the category.
The Knights and G-Braves conclude their three-game series from Coolray field on Monday night as Kyle Drabek is set to take the mound in the 6:35 p.m. matchup. The team will then return to Uptown Charlotte for a three-game set against the Durham Bulls starting on Tuesday night at BB&T Ballpark.
