Andy Burns was one of four Bisons to record a hit in a 4-0 loss on Sunday afternoon. He finished the day going 1-for-3.

It was harder than expected for Joel Pineiro to pick up his first victory with the Bisons. After an admirable display at Double-A, he proved he was ready for the next level. But Pineiro didn't have his best stuff - and neither did the Buffalo offense.

The Herd was shut out by Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon in the first game of a day-night double-header at PNC Field.

Pineiro made his first start for the Bisons. He posted a 3.77 ERA in nine starts with Double-A New Hampshire. He had an admirable outing, going seven innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on 10 hits. Pineiro took a loss in his first Bisons appearance.

The righty was shaky at first, but eventually settled in. He gave up all of his earned runs by the fourth inning, but only gave up one hit over his final three innings. The final run of the game was partially due to two errors made in the sixth inning. A double by Cole Figueroa, sandwiched between two infield errors, allowed the unearned run to score.

By the time Pineiro found his groove, the lead was too large for a struggling Buffalo offense to rebound from.

The Herd produced four hits throughout the afternoon game and was shut out for the first time since June 21. By the time the Bisons picked up their third hit of the game, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre had already accumulated their third run of the day.

Buffalo's 2-3-4 hitters went 0-for-10 on Sunday afternoon, including Matt Hague, who only lowered his league-leading batting average three points to .341. Hague was the only player to advance past first base after he was hit by a pitch and later advanced on a single.

Joel De La Cruz picked up his sixth victory for the RailRiders as he allowed only three hits and held Buffalo scoreless over six innings. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's pitching staff allowed seven Bisons to reach base. Buffalo did not reach base past the seventh inning, but neither did the opposition.

The Herd's bullpen accumulated a scoreless eighth inning by Greg Burke and Bobby Korecky. The bullpen has yet to give up a run in July.

The Bisons will play the night portion of the double-header at approximately 7:05 p.m.
