Indianapolis Indians News Release
COLUMBUS, OHIO - Josh Bell clubbed a three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning, but it was not enough as the Columbus Clippers held off the Indianapolis Indians on Tuesday night, 9-6.
Columbus (33-25) started their scoring with a pair of runs in the first inning. Adam Moore, who would finish the game with five hits, singled home Giovanny Urshela to put the Clippers on the board. Later in the inning, Joey Butler drew a bases-loaded walk to force home Jesus Aguilar.
The Indians (30-27) would tie the game in the top of the third. Max Moroff doubled to left field to advance Pedro Florimon home, and Adam Frazier knocked a sacrifice fly to left to plate Moroff and tie the game at two.
Five runs crossed for the Clippers in the fifth to open an advantage. Ronny Rodriguez reached on an error that allowed two runs to score to highlight the frame's scoring. Erik Gonzalez, Urshela, and Bryson Myles drove in runs during the inning. A sacrifice fly by Yandy Diaz scored Moore in the sixth to bring the lead to 8-2 for Columbus.
Indianapolis stormed back into the game with four runs in the seventh. Moroff plated a run with a groundout, and the play moved Hanson to third base. Adam Frazier drew a walk to keep the inning alive, and that setup Bell who went opposite field as a left-handed batter to homer and pull the Tribe within two runs, 8-6.
Aguilar homered in the eighth to provide insurance for Columbus, and the Indians would not cut further into the deficit.
The walk by Frazier extended his on-base streak to 28 games, the longest streak in the International League this season. Seven different Indianapolis batters collected hits in the game, including multi-hit efforts for Hanson and Florimon.
Michael Peoples (1-0) pitched six innings for Columbus in his Triple-A debut to get the victory. He allowed two runs on four hits. Trevor Williams (0-3) conceded five runs, four earned, and was handed the loss.
With the series level, the two teams will play game three of their five-game series on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is set for 12:05 p.m. with Justin Masterson taking the hill for the Tribe.
