June 7, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release
On the strength of a 3-for-5, two RBI day from third baseman Max Moroff and another strong outing from Pittsburgh Pirates top prospect Tyler Glasnow, Indianapolis (30-26) topped Columbus (32-25) in game one of their five game series by a final score of 7-1 in front of an outstanding season-high crowd of 11,373 at Huntington Park on Monday night.
Jesus Aguilar launched his team leading 10th home run to the left field bleachers in the bottom of the second inning to give the Clippers the early 1-0 advantage.
Indianapolis tied the game and then some in the top of the fourth, as the Indians pounded out three straight hits, including RBI singles from Jason Rogers and Danny Ortiz as well as an RBI double by Willy Garcia with two outs, making it 3-1.
A two-run double by Moroff and an RBI base hit by Josh Bell in the seventh frame blew the game open for the Indians, as the Clippers weren't able to get anything going at the plate in the later innings.
For Glasnow (6-2), he went five and 1/3 innings on the mound, giving up an earned run on three hits. He walked two batters and struck out five.
Clippers starter in southpaw Ross Detwiler (0-4) gave up six earned runs on 10 hits while walking three and punching out one.
The Clippers and Indians duel again tomorrow night in the Arena District with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. A pair of right-handers will throw for each team as Cody Anderson (0-0, 2.30 ERA) is slated for Columbus against Trevor Williams (0-2, 5.56 ERA) for Indianapolis.
