Louisville Bats News Release

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Bats dropped game two of a four-game set with the Syracuse Chiefs 3-2 on Tuesday night at NBT Bank Stadium in 10 innings. The loss drops the Bats to 5-2 in extra inning games this season.

Syracuse got off to a quick start after scoring two runs in the bottom of the first on two hits and two walks.

The Bats answered in the top of the second with two runs of their own, with an RBI single by catcher Raffy Lopez and an RBI ground out by second baseman Carlos Triunfel.

The game went eight straight innings with a tied score of 2-2 before right-fielder Caleb Ramsey brought in a run in the 10th that tipped the score in the Chief's favor, 3-2.

Bats' starter, right hander Keyvius Sampson (2-1, 1.95), threw six innings and rang up five strikeouts, giving up four hits, two runs and three walks. Relief pitcher Stephen Johnson (0-3, 5.72) took the loss after pitching one and two-thirds innings, giving up two hits and the decisive 10th inning run.

Syracuse right hander Austin Voth (3-2, 2.87) pitched the first six innings, giving up five hits, two runs, and one hit batter, while striking out six. The Syracuse bullpen had quick turnover after the sixth inning, with each relief pitcher only throwing one inning each. The fourth pitching change of the night proved to be enough, as lefty Aaron Laffey (4-2, 3.47) took the win after pitching one inning, striking out one.

The Bats face the Chiefs again tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. with left-hander Cody Reed (4-3, 3.31) taking the mound for Louisville against Syracuse right-hander Jaron Long (3-2, 2.22, with Double-A Harrisburg).
