Today's Game
Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons face the Rochester Red Wings at Frontier Field in the second game of a four-game, home-and-home series (7:05 p.m.). The Herd is 4-1 so far in June and 17-14 on the road overall this season. These two teams will play Wednesday (7:05 p.m.) and Thursday (1:05 p.m.) at Coca-Cola Field.
Last Game (ROC 6, BUF 2)
The Red Wings scored in five different innings to defeat the Bisons Monday, 6-2. Both Herd runs came on solo home runs from 1B Casey Kotchman. Rochester RHP Jose Berrios struck out 11 Buffalo batters, a new season-high for a Bisons' opponent.
vs. Rochester (3-6)
This is already the fourth series between the IL's closest rivals. The clubs split a pair on Buffalo, April 14-15, that included the Bisons' 2-1 win in their home opener. The Red Wings then won a pair of three-game series in late April (2-1), one in Buffalo and another in Rochester.
Scott Diamond
LHP Scott Diamond is coming off a dominating performance his last time out. The lefty allowed just five hits in eight shutout innings as the Bisons bested Columbus 4-0 last Wednesday. The former Red Wings pitcher is 1-0 with a 0.69 ERA in two starts against Rochester this season (13.0IP, 11H, 9K). He worked six shutout innings at Frontier Field in no-decision on April 24.
Casey Kotchman
1B Casey Kotchman homered twice last night and now has three longballs in his last two games. The veteran has reached base safely in 18 of his last 19 games with a .328 (22-67) average since May 10. On the season, Kotchman leads the Bisons with 20 walks and a .375 on-base pct. and is second with 15 multi-hit performances.
Dalton Pompey
OF Dalton Pompey has hit in his last 13 road games, the 2nd-longest streak in the International League this season. In those games, Pompey has averaged .364 (20-55) with six extra-base hits and eight RBI. The outfielder brings an eight-game hit streak overall into tonight's game.
Bisons Bits
The Bisons have a winning record at home (14-12) and on the road (17-14)...As a team, the Bisons are hitting .312 with 19 extra-base hits and 34 runs scored (6.8) in the first five games of June...RHP Ben Rowen has not allowed a run in his last 10 appearances. The reliever has allowed five hits while striking out nine in his last 12.0 innings...Buffalo is 21-1 when outhitting their opponents this year.
Blue Jays Update
The Blue Jays' (31-27) suffered an 11-0 loss at the hands of the Tigers on Monday night. Toronto was outhit 15-3 with LHP J.A. Happ yielding six runs in five innings of work. SS Darwin Barney had two hits to improve his season average to .337. Toronto takes on Detroit tonight at 7:08 p.m. with former Bisons RHP Aaron Sanchez on the mound.
