Clinton, IA - The LumberKings pitching trio of Taijuan Walker, Tyler Blandford, and Jonathan Arias struck out 18 Kernels hitters and held the Kernels to three hits, shutting out Cedar Rapids 3-0. Walker (3-4) was brilliant on the mound for Clinton. The 18-year old, 43rd overall selection in the 2010 draft, went six innings and allowed no runs on one hit. He struck out a season-high 11 while walking two.

Blandford went one inning out of the bullpen, allowing no runs on no hits while striking out two and walking one. Arias picked up his third save in two innings of work, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out five. Max Russell (4-9) took the tough-luck loss on the mound for the Kernels. He struck out a season-high nine batters in six innings of work. He allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits. Beau Brooks pitched two innings in relief for the Kernels, allowing one unearned run on three hits while striking out two.

Clinton got on the board first in the 4th inning to take a 1-0 lead. Stefen Romero singled to left field with one out. He reached 2nd base on a wild pitch and scored on a RBI single by Kalian Sams. The LumberKings added a run in the 6th inning to take a 2-0 lead. Kernels starter Max Russell walked Carlos Ramirez and Mickey Wiswall with one out. Ramirez went to 3rd base on a passed ball by catcher Marcus Nidiffer and scored on a RBI single by Romero.

In the 7th inning, Clinton extended their lead to 3-0. Sams reached on an error by Kernels 2nd baseman Jean Almanzar to begin the inning. He went to 2nd base on a wild pitch and scored on a RBI single by Tim Morris.

The Kernels conclude the three game series at Clinton on Friday at 7:00 p.m. The Kernels return home on Saturday, opening up a nine game home stand. Saturday night's game begins at 6:35 p.m. from Perfect Game Field vs. Peoria.
