Fort Wayne, Ind.-Stalin Gerson allowed no runs over six and one-third innings while Ronald Torreyes and Donald Lutz belted home runs as the Dayton Dragons defeated the South Bend Silver Hawks 9-1 on Friday night. The win was the Dragons seventh in their last eight games and improved their second half record to 11-4.

The Dragons took two-out-of-three in the series in Fort Wayne, giving them their fifth straight series victory to start the second half. They closed out a six-game road trip with a 5-1 record.

The Dragons led 2-0 when they erupted for six runs in the sixth inning. Lutz belted a solo home run to start the rally, his team-leading 12th homer of the year. Dominic D'Anna added a two-run double later in the inning.

Gerson (3-0) continued what has been a phenomenal performance over four starts with the Dragons this season. He allowed three hits and two walks with three strikeouts to lower his earned run average to 0.75. Gerson has allowed just two runs in 24 innings with Dayton.

The Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on back-to-back walks to Torreyes and D'Anna followed by a run-scoring double by Yorman Rodriguez. Torreyes drilled a solo homer in the fifth, his second of the year. The six-run sixth gave Dayton a comfortable margin and Dragons reliever Chad Rogers entered the game in the seventh with the bases loaded and one out and notched back-to-back strikeouts to work out of the jam.

Dayton finished with eight hits. Torreyes and Rodriguez each had two.

The Dragons also played errorless baseball for the fourth time on the trip. In six games on the road, Dayton committed just two errors. With the win, the Dragons remained in first place, two games ahead of Great Lakes.

The Dragons (11-4, 46-39) return to Fifth Third Field on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. against the South Bend Silver Hawks (5-10, 39-45) in the first game of a three-game series. The Dragons will have the opportunity to break the all-time record for consecutive sell-outs on Saturday night. The Dragons tied the record held by the Portland Trail Blazers on July 2 when they enjoyed their 814th straight sell-out. Daniel Renken (3-8, 3.93) will start for Dayton.
