South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
South Bend, IN - With a 4-1 loss to the Great Lakes Loons on Friday night, the South Bend Silver Hawks complete the six game home stand without a victory in the set. The offense managed just 13 runs in the six games, including scoring just one run on four different occasions.
South Bend starter Mike Bolsinger (LP, 2-3) was the latest victim of a lack of run support, taking a loss despite allowing just one hit over 6.0 innings. Unfortunately for Bolsinger, the one hit was a Leon Landry home run following a walk in the third inning, giving the Loons a 2-0 lead. In his three starts, Bolsinger has received just five runs of support.
The Silver Hawks scratched across their lone run in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a Loons error. After Zach Walters singled, he broke for second base when pitcher Greg Wilborn (WP, 1-0) threw to first. Walters managed to reach second base safely when shortstop Casio Grider dropped the relay through from the first baseman. Matt Helm plated Walters to bring South Bend within one.
That was the only run that Wilborn allowed in his five innings while striking out four and stranding four runners on base. Raul Burgos (ND) allowed just one hit in 3.0 innings and Logan Bawcom (SV, 14) pitched a perfect ninth for the save.
The Loons added to their lead in the top of the ninth inning, scoring twice against Dan Taylor. The first two hitters reached on a hit and an error, then Steve Domecus had a RBI double and Jon Garcia added a RBI single to score two big insurance runs.
The Silver Hawks head out on the road Saturday, taking on the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds) at 7:00 PM Eastern Time at Fifth Third Field. The Dragons are expected to break the North American sports all-time sellout streak record Saturday night with their 815th consecutive sellout. RHP Jeff Shields (4-8, 5.22 ERA) will start for South Bend against Dayton's RHP Daniel Renken (3-8, 3.93 ERA). Pre-game coverage begins at 6:40 PM Eastern Time on www.sportsjuice.com and www.silverhawks.com.
