Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

The River Bandits scored the tying run in the eighth to force extra innings before eventually besting the Burlington Bees 7-5 in 10 innings.

Quad Cities wasted no time getting on the scoreboard with a pair of first inning runs off Bees starter Tyler Vail. Burlington plated a run in the first and second innings to draw even before the River Bandits reclaimed the lead on a sacrifice fly from Michael Swinson in the fourth.

The Bees used back-to-back homers by Josh Whitaker and A.J. Kirby-Jones to claim a 4-3 lead in the sixth. All four Bees runs were scored against Bandit starter Trevor Rosenthal who lasted seven innings. Of the four runs allowed, three were earned. He ended up with three walks and seven strikeouts in the no decision.

In the eighth, Michael Swinson doubled home Geoff Klein with two outs to tie the game and, eventually, force extra innings. Swinson's double was one of four doubles in the game for Quad Cities. Two others came in the 10th off the bat of Kolten Wong and Oscar Taveras. Wong eventually scored with Ronny Gil on a fielding error by Nino Leyja. A batter later, Taveras drove home Swinson with his two-base hit which put the Bandits up 7-4.

Burlington scored a run off Angel De Jesus (3) on Tony Thompson's ninth home run of the season. That's all the Bee's would get as they left the tying runs in scoring position when Douglas Landaeta struck out swinging to end the game. De Jesus struck out the side on his way to the save.

Justin Edwards (1-0) earned the win by working two scoreless innings. Pedro Vidal worked 3 1/3 innings out of the bullpen but took the loss after getting tagged with the three-10th inning runs. Vail didn't record a decision after allowing three runs, all earned, over just 3 2/3 innings.

The Bandits return home to open their longest homestand of the season. Quad Cities will play their next nine games at home over 10 days beginning Saturday. The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers will visit first for three games Saturday through Monday. First pitch Saturday night is set for 7:00 at Modern Woodmen Park.

UP NEXT: Now is the perfect time to lock-in your group outing for the 2011 season. Group packages start for groups as small as just 10 people. It's also not to late to pick out the ticket package that fits your schedule. Ticket plans start as low as $40 per seat.
