FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Rymer Liriano doubled twice, but the TinCaps lost to the Dayton Dragons, 9-1, Friday at Parkview Field. The Dragons plated six runs in the sixth inning on their way to the win.
Dayton jumped ahead in the first when Ronald Torreyes drew a walk and later scored on a double by Yorman Rodriguez. LHP Noah Mull kept them scoreless until the fifth, when Torreyes drilled a solo homer to make it 2-0.
In the sixth, Donald Lutz led off with a homer and Mull walked David Vidal to finish his night on the mound. Dayton took advantage of a key error and got a two-run double from Dominic D'Anna which made it 7-0.
Fort Wayne didn't score until it was down to its final out. Wes Cunningham pulled an RBI single into right field to chase Liriano home and finish the scoring at 9-1.
Dayton RHP Stalin Gerson (3-0) worked 6.1 innings to grab the win, retiring the first nine batters of the game. Mull (1-3) took the loss.
The TinCaps fell to 5-10 in the half, 35-49 for the season. Dayton improved to 11-4 since the all- star break, 46-36 for the year.
The TinCaps open a three-game road series against the Great Lakes Loons (Class-A Los Angeles Dodgers) Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Dow Diamond. TinCaps RHP Keyvius Sampson (7-2) gets the starting nod against Loons RHP Zach Lee (5-2).
