Clinton LumberKings News Release

Fort Wayne, IN - The Clinton LumberKings failed to complete a three-game sweep over the Fort Wayne TinCaps, instead falling 4-2 on Monday night at Parkview Field to snap a modest three-game wining streak. A three-run first inning rally by the TinCaps (14-16, 46-53) proved too much for the LumberKings (17-13, 57-43) to overcome.

Clinton struck for the game's first run in the top of the first inning. The LumberKings opened the game with singles from Joseph Rosa, Ariel Sandoval, and Jack Larsen to chase home a run and take a brief 1-0 lead. Still, the LumberKings could have added on. Following a one walk to Keegan McGovern, Clinton loaded the bases only to have the inning end when the next batter Onil Pena ground into a double play.

Randy Bell started for Clinton and ran into trouble with two out in the bottom of the first inning. Jeisson Rosario was hit by a 1-2 pitch and Bell (2-3) then walked the next two batters on eight pitches to load the bases. Kelvin Melean singled home the first two runs of the rally to put Fort Wayne on top and Luis Almanzar capped the rally with an RBI single through the right side of the infield.

In the top of the third inning, the LumberKings pulled to within one with their final run of the night. Ariel Sandoval singled with one out and moved to third on a Larsen single. Eugene Helder then grounded out to short to bring home Sandoval to make it 3-2.

The one run advantage held up for the TinCaps as four Fort Wayne relievers combined to shutout the LumberKings over the final six innings. Austin Smith (1-0) earned the win for the TinCaps with a shutout inning of work in the fourth and Travis Radke picked up his 12th save of the year with two innings of work in the eighth and ninth innings.

The LumberKings will take tomorrow off before continuing the road trip with the opener of a three-game series with the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Veterans Memorial Stadium at Perfect Game Field.
