Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release

LANSING, MICH. - The Lansing Lugnuts picked up a 2-0 combined shutout from Jordan Barrett, Dalton Rodriguez, and Dany Jimenez in Monday's series finale with the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Cooley Law School Stadium. Lansing (14-17, 57-44) snapped a nine-game losing streak and handed Cedar Rapids (22-9, 54-46) its only loss in a six-game Eastern Division road trip. The Kernels still claimed a series victory, 2-1, over the Lugnuts.

Barrett (1-1) bested Randy Dobnak (7-3) in the series-ending pitchers' duel. Barrett tossed a career-high seven shutout innings with just two hits and one walk allowed. He did not allow any runners to advance beyond second base in the win. Dobnak notched a quality start for Cedar Rapids after yielding just two runs including one earned run, but he was dealt a loss.

The Lugnuts opened the scoring during the bottom of the second inning. Chavez Young collected a one-out double before Ryan Gold produced an RBI single to drive in Young for a 1-0 advantage.

Lansing increased its lead to 2-0 in the sixth. Brandon Grudzielanek singled with one out in the frame, and Young followed with a walk. Gold grounded to second base for a force out, but an errant throw to first base on the double play attempt allowed Grudzielanek to come home.

Rodriguez and Jimenez each registered a scoreless inning of relief to cap Lansing's shutout victory. Rodriguez pitched a perfect eighth inning for his second hold. Jimenez worked around a walk in the ninth and tallied his team-high sixth save of the year.

Cedar Rapids will be idle Tuesday before kicking off a five-game homestand Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. against the Clinton LumberKings. The probable pitchers are Kernels right-hander Edwar Colina (3-3, 3.11) and LumberKings right-hander Ryne Inman (3-6, 5.07). Fans unable to attend Wednesday's game can follow the contest on 1450 KMRY AM and 93.1 KMRY FM and also online at www.kmryradio.com, www.kernels.com, and MiLB.TV.
