'Claws Drop First of Three at Delmarva, 5-3

SALISBURY, Md. - A five-run 2nd inning for Delmarva countered the two runs Lakewood posted in the top of the inning, as Delmarva jumped ahead en route to a 5-3 victory over the BlueClaws Friday night.

Ramon Oviedo started the ballgame for Lakewood but allowed five runs in two innings for his third loss in as many starts. His record is 1-3 in four starts this season with an 8.35 ERA after allowing five earned runs in 2.0 innings to the Shorebirds. The loss was the 15th in the past 17 games for Lakewood.

Gabriel Arias and Mike Nesseth combined to toss six shutout innings out of the bullpen allowing four baserunners and striking out five. The BlueClaws bullpen has allowed one earned run in the last 15.2 innings pitched (0.57 ERA) dating to the 7th inning of Tuesday's game against Lexington.

Harold Martinez notched three of the seven BlueClaws hits in the ballgame as part of a 3-for-4 effort which included a double and a run scored. It was Martinez' third three-hit game in 42 games this season for Lakewood, and it was his first since May 16th-also against Delmarva.

The BlueClaws and Shorebirds will go head-to-head in Game 2 of a three-game series at Purdue Stadium. Lefty Ervis Manzanillo (0-4, 5.13) will get the nod for the BlueClaws and will be opposed by Justin Moore (0-1, 9.00) for Delmarva.
