Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds (25-35) exploded for five runs in the second inning and the pitching held up in a 5-3 win over the Lakewood BlueClaws (20-40) on Friday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The Shorebirds have won three games in a row for the first time since the middle of April.

Lakewood scored first in the second inning. Chris Duffy reached on a walk. After a double by Harold Martinez, Duffy scored on a bounce out to short by John Hill. Martinez scored on a wild pitch by Miguel Chalas.

The Shorebirds responded emphatically in the bottom of the second. Jason Esposito and Brenden Webb reached on back-to-back walks. Then, Connor Narron extended his hit streak to seven games with a flare into left-center field to load the bases. Wynston Sawyer, who extended his hit streak to five games, doubled to the base of the left field wall to tie the game at 2-2. Then, Gabriel Lino crushed a three-run home run to left field to give the Shorebirds a 5-2 lead. It was his third home run of the season and first since April 15.

The BlueClaws cut into the deficit in the fourth. Kelly Dugan hit a solo home run to right-center field, his sixth of the year.

Neither team scored the rest of the night.

Miguel Chalas earned his staff high fifth win of the season over six innings. He surrendered six hits and three runs.

Zach Fowler entered in the seventh and faced just one batter over the minimum in three scoreless innings. He retired the first eight batters faced and allowed just one hit. Fowler has not allowed an earned run in 12.1 consecutive innings over seven outings.

Narron and Sawyer paced the Shorebirds offense with two hits apiece.

The Delmarva Shorebirds and Lakewood BlueClaws play game two of the series on Saturday night at 7:05 pm. RHP Justin Moore is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
