Friday Night Routing Goes to Augusta

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves lost to the Augusta GreenJackets16-4 Friday night in front of 4,080. Chipper Jones began his rehabilitation stint Friday and went 1-1 with two walks while playing five innings.

The first run of the game came courtesy of Jones with an RBI hit to score Kyle Kubitza who had tripled earlier in the inning. Augusta would jump ahead of the Braves in the second and plate two. After a lead off single by Ben Thomas and a walk to Jose Flores, Thomas would score on a Joe Staley RBI single. Flores would also score in the inning on another base hit by Garrett Buechele to jump ahead 2-1. The GreenJackets were not done and manufactured five runs in the fourth, highlighted by run scoring hits by Buechele, Brett Krill, Kelby Tomlinson, Thomas, and an RBI triple by Jesus Galindo. The Braves would cut Augusta's margin to 7-2 in the bottom of the inning on back to back doubles by Sergio Miranda and Cory Brownsten. The GreenJackets came roaring back in the fifth and amassed eight runs on six hits for a 15-2 advantage. The Braves would only score twice more with a run in the sixth and eighth innings, but it would not be enough to surpass Augusta and Rome would lose 16-4.

Adalberto Meja (4-4) would get the win for the GreenJackets after coming in to relieve starter Kevin Couture. Meja pitched four innings, giving up six hits and two runs while striking out two. Rome starter Navery Moore

(3-3) gave up eight hits and seven runs before getting chased in the fourth inning.
