STAT OF THE DAY: The Shorebirds have used just seven total relief pitchers in the last six games. Four relief pitchers did not throw in the West Virginia series (David Baker, Matt Bywater, Zach Fowler and Williams Louico).
PREVIEW: The Shorebirds open a three-game homestand against the Lakewood BlueClaws following a 3-4 road trip and an off day on Thursday. The next seven games will be played against the BlueClaws, three at home followed by four on the road. The Shorebirds have 11 games left in the first half of the year.
SERIES WIN: With a 4-2 win on Wednesday over West Virginia, the Shorebirds secured their first series win since April 24-27 against Greenville (3-1). Since the Greenville series, the Shorebirds lost seven series and split three before earning a win against the Power.
TWO GREAT STARTS IN A ROW: Zach Davies and Eduardo Rodriguez turned in two great starts on back-to-back nights in Charleston, WV. Davies went 6.2 innings on Tuesday and gave up just three hits and two runs. The following night, Rodriguez tossed six shutout innings and allowed only three hits. The two went a combined 12.2 innings and gave up just six hits.
NARRON'S JUNE: Through six games in June, Connor Narron is 11-for-20 (.550) with three home runs and eight RBIs. Narron has double the amount of RBIs he had in 23 games in May (4) in six games in June. During his six-game hitting streak, Narron has boosted his batting average from .185 to .229.
ESPOSITO'S SECOND: Jason Esposito hit his second home run of the season in the fourth inning on Wednesday. His first home run came on May 17 (17 games without a home run).
DELMONICO'S AN ALL-STAR: On Tuesday, Nicky Delmonico was named the starting first baseman for the Northern Division in the SAL All-Star Game on June 19 in Charleston, South Carolina. Delmonico is the only Shorebirds player representative. He leads the team in several major statistical categories including: hits (53), RBIs (33), total bases (83), doubles (15) and home runs (5).
