
Ciriaco Blasts Home Three as 'Wolves Take Down Curve

The SeaWolves snapped a two-game losing skid on Wednesday night at Blair County Ballpark with a 7-6 win over the Altoona Curve in the middle game of the series.
The SeaWolves (28-29) jumped ahead against Curve (29-29) starter Bryan Morris in the top of the fourth inning. Brandon Douglas tripled down the right field line for his first three-bagger of the season. Justin Henry walked putting runners on the corners for Francisco Martinez. Audy Ciriaco followed and crushed a three-run home run over the wall in left for a 4-0 lead. It was the third home run for Ciriaco and his first since May 29.
Altoona struck back in the bottom of the first against Erie starter Casey Crosby. Brock Holt and Starling Marte each walked to start the inning. Holt moved to third on a Jordy Mercer fly out and scored on a Quincy Latimore groundout making it 4-1.
In the second, Jeremy Farrell led off with a single and came home to on a two-out Holt single, cutting the Erie lead in half at 4-2.
In the fourth, the Curve tied the game. Farrell led off with his second hit. With one out, Jose Hernandez and Brad Chalk each walked loading the bases for Holt. Crosby hit Holt, bringing home Farrell making it 4-3. Marte hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Hernandez, tying the game at 4-4.
Erie promptly regained the lead in the top of the fifth against reliever Jared Hughes. Michael Rockett, who earlier in the game extended his hitting streak to eight straight games, led off with a walk and was sacrificed over to second. Douglas singled home Rockett for a 5-4 'Wolves lead. Douglas followed by stealing second and third for his 12th and 13th steals of the year. After a Henry walk, Martinez hit a sacrifice fly to center, bringing home Douglas for a 6-4 lead.
The 'Wolves added a run in the top of the sixth against Hughes. Ciriaco led off with a single for his second hit of the game and stole second. Michael Bertram swatted his 12th double down the right field line, plating Ciriaco from second for a 7-4 Erie edge.
Altoona would inch closer in the seventh and eighth innings. In the seventh, Holt led off and reached on an error. He came home to score on a two-out Latimore single. Latimore reached second on a balk and scored on a Matt Curry double making it a 7-6 game. Both runs were unearned against reliever Jared Gayhart.
In the eighth, Rob Waite surrendered back-to-back singles to Farrell and Tony Sanchez. Hernandez sacrificed the runners into scoring position. With the go-ahead run at second base, Waite induced a fly ball to shallow right from Brad Chalk and he struck out Holt ending the threat.
Chance Ruffin tossed a perfect ninth and struck out Latimore ending the game. He earned his sixth save.
Crosby (4-2) won his second straight and third in his last four starts despite not having his best stuff. He allowed four runs on five hits with five walks and six strikeouts.
