Reading Fightin Phils News Release

(Reading, PA) -- Trenton (36-23) scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning off R-Phils reliever Tyson Brummett (2-4, 2.57), and came-from-behind to beat the R-Phils 7-6 in game three of their four-game series from FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, PA on Wednesday night. The win, was Trenton's first in the series, and the club now has a chance to split the series with Reading in Thursday's finale, after dropping the first two.

Brummett replaced lefty Les Walrond to begin the ninth inning, and had trouble with the first batter he faced - DH Cody Johnson. Johnson, a native of Panama City, FL, launched his 12th home run of the season and second in as many days, to make it a 6-5 ballgame. The home run was Johnson's fourth against Reading this season.

Two batters later, after a single by Jason Place, DeAngelo Mack roped a double into center field to push across the tying run. With the lead now gone, Brummett continued to falter. He then allowed a single to the next batter, Jose Pirela, who already had two home runs in the game. After a sacrifice bunt off the bat of Addison Maruszak, Trenton would look to their bench.

With two batters on base and just one out, Jose Gil stepped to the plate as the Thunder's pinch hitter. Gil hit a sacrifice fly to center field, which scored DeAngelo Mack for the go-ahead run -- making it a 7-6 Trenton lead. Brummett was then replaced by reliever Jake Diekman, who struck-out Ray Kruml to end the inning.

The R-Phils would battle back, and once again put the game in the hands of Mitchell. The 24-year-old outfielder, who had the game-winning hit on Monday and Tuesday night, stepped to the plate with runners on first and second base and two outs. Mitchell, however, could not make it a third-straight game with a walk-off hit, as he struck-out swinging to end the game.

Trenton reliever Josh Schmidt (2-2, 1.59) allowed a run in the eighth inning, but got the win after tossing two innings out of the Thunder bullpen. The Trenton win, combined with the loss by New Hampshire, propelled the Thunder into first place in the Eastern League Eastern Division.

Reading starter Austin Hyatt allowed four runs over seven innings and did not factor in the decision. Hyatt, a native of Atlanta, GA, fanned a season-high 10 batters. He allowed two home runs to Trenton shortstop Jose Pirela, but otherwise pitched well.

Taking the ball for the R-Phils in Thursday's finale will be LHP Ryan Edell (4-1, 3.78). A native of Boston, MA, Edell, 27 pitched well against the Thunder the last time he faced them. Edell allowed just two runs on six hits over six innings, but did not factor in the decision.

RHP Dellin Betances (3-1, 1.99) gets the nod for Trenton in game four. Betances, a New York native, will vie for his first win since May 20 - when he beat the Portland Sea Dogs. The 23-year-old has gone 3-0 with a 1.21 ERA at home this season and 0-1 on the road with a 3.45 ERA over three starts.

Coverage begins with the R-Phils pre-game show at 6:35 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1240 AM WIOV and readingphillies.com. Brian Seltzer will have the call for all of the action. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
