Cincinnati Cyclones Host Dayton In Preseason Tilt Friday
October 6, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones, the 2008 Kelly Cup champions, open the preseason on Friday night (October 10) against I-75 foe Dayton. The contest will be played at SportsPlus (10765 Reading Rd., Evendale) with a 7:30pm faceoff. Tickets are available at the door for $6 each.
The Cyclones have their first on-ice practice tomorrow (October 7) at SportsPlus. The practice will start at 10:30am and is open to the public. The Cyclones expect to have Barret Ehgoetz, Billy Irish-Baker and Sean Perkins from last year's championship team on ice for the first practice. Other players will begin to arrive from other camps in the days ahead.
Cincinnati turned in a 55-12-5 record last season and then knocked off Johnstown in a four game sweep, Reading in a seven game struggle, South Carolina in a five game battle and then Las Vegas in six grueling games before capturing its first-ever Kelly Cup. In the two seasons Chuck Weber has been the coach of the Cyclones, the club has a 15-7-2 record (.667 winning percentage) in the regular season against Dayton.
Dayton, 29-31-12 last season, lost in the opening round of the playoffs to Johnstown in a two-game sweep. The Bombers advanced to the Kelly Cup Finals in 2006-07, losing to Idaho in a five game set.
This will be the first time that the Cyclones have hosted Dayton in a preseason game in exactly two years (Oct. 10, 2006) and it is the first time SportsPlus has held a professional hockey game in seven years (Cyclones and Bombers in 2001).
The Cyclones will close the preseason the next day (Saturday, October 11) with a 2pm contest at Dayton. That game will be played at the Kettering Recreation Center. Tickets for that game will be $10 for adults and $5 for children. The Kettering Rec is located at 2900 Glengarry Road, located by taking exit 10 (Indian Ripple Road) off I-675 and turning left onto Stroop Road then right onto Glengarry.
Tickets for the 2008-09 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. The Cyclones Sales Department can be reached at 513-421-PUCK, extension 144. The Cyclones open the campaign at Wheeling on Friday, October 17 and after three road games, host their home opener at U.S. Bank Arena against Dayton on Saturday, October 25 at 7:30pm. There will be a special Kelly Cup championship banner raising ceremony prior to the game.
