Rawlyk Assigned From AHL Worcester

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, announced today that veteran defenseman Rory Rawlyk has been assigned to the club from Worcester of the American Hockey League.

Rawlyk, 25, collected nine goals, 36 points, and 116 penalty minutes in 61 games last season between the South Carolina Stingrays and Regensburg EV of the second division German Bundesliga. The Edmonton, Alberta native and sixth-year professional spent three seasons in the New York Rangers system from 2003-06 with the Charlotte Checkers where he recorded 30 goals, 102 points, and 206 penalty minutes in 205 games. Rawlyk led all Checkers' defensemen in scoring for three consecutive seasons and was selected as a starter and an alternate captain to the American Conference roster at the 2006 ECHL All-Star Game.

Rawlyk has appeared in 36 career AHL games with Hartford and Binghamton and recorded two goals and seven assists. His career professional totals include 47 goals, 127 assists, 174 points, and 442 penalty minutes in 343 games.

In preparation for the 2008-09 season and the season opener on Friday, Oct. 17 at home against the Victoria Salmon Kings, the RoadRunners will host a portion of their training camp in Southwest Florida and will face-off against the Florida Everblades in a two-game pre-season series at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 10 and 11 at Germain Arena in Estero, Fla.

The RoadRunners would like to extend an invitation to all members of the media to join Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Church, Assistant Coach Brian O'Leary, and members of the 2008-09 team from 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at US Airways Center for Media Day. Media Day will take place at the Phoenix Suns Practice Court, which is located on the event level of US Airways Center across from the RoadRunners locker room.

With the addition of Rawlyk, the RoadRunners currently have 27 players in training camp. Players under contract include forwards Josh Bonar, Mitch Carefoot, Wes Clark, Kimbi Daniels, Dan DaSilva, Andrew Desjardins, Bryan Esner, Gino Guyer, James McEwan, Stephen Peat, Daniel Sisca, Peder Skinner, Chris Stevens, and Geoff Walker; defenseman Andrew Andricopoulos, Matt Burke, T.J. Campbell, Rob Dmytruk, Bryan Nathe, Tom Sawatske, and Brett Thurston; and goaltender Paulo Colaiacovo.

Forwards Rick Cleaver and Colin Sinclair, and goalies Ryan Daniels and Reto Schurch are in training camp on try-out agreements.
